PRINTMAKING
Log line :
A collection of woodprint pieces.
Description :
This collection features pieces from Carroll Community College's Art-210, Elements of Printmaking: Relief Process. Relief printing involves the creation of designs with a raised surface that is able to be inked and then copied onto another material, in this case paper and shirts.
In this process, I would draw my design onto carbon transfer paper and then transfer it onto a mounted linoleum or MDF wood. After outlining the transferred design with black sharpie on the linoleum or MDF, I would go over the surface of the block with a red sharpie, as to make it easier to see what is carved out while carving. I would then begin carving with either a Mikisyo Power Grip carving set or a Speedball Lino set. The raised surface is then inked with a brayer, I used Caligo Safewash Relief Ink and a Speedball rubber brayer, and the block is then set onto the etching printing press with the design facing up ontop of a print blanket. The printmaking paper or shirt is then placed onto the inked block, and after placing additional print blankets on top, is then rolled through the press. Additionally, you can hand press a block with a hand-press.
Prints made were:
Reductive print "A Ruff Night Fur Mr.Dog-Man." I ended up making 32 of these, with 9 being in the perfect edition. Mr.Dog-Man was based off my 13 year old dog, Jake.
A T-shirt design and first wood block print featuring my 3 cats.
Divers and Astronauts linocut print - "Deep Dive" and the colored edition "Scuba Steve".
